BayREN Business Program : Big Savings for Small Businesses

The soaring costs of electricity has many small businesses looking for ways to immediately cut costs. The BayREN Business program can help you upgrade to efficient HVAC, refrigeration, LED lighting, water heating, and more.
How to Upgrade and Save
- Submit an Interest Form: BayREN will reach out within 5 business days to discuss your eligibility and provide an overview of the program.
- Schedule a free equipment evaluation.
- Receive new equipment and start-to-finish project service.
- See Energy Savings! You’ll use less energy on your day-to-day operations and will have the potential to save on your utility bills!
BayREN Business is closed to new project applications effective October 4, 2024 and will re-open with incentives for new projects in 2025. Submit an interest form to check your eligibility and be placed on an interest list. The interest list will be notified when the program re-opens in 2025.
Bay Area Multifamily Building Enhancements (BAMBE) Program

If you’re a multifamily property owner interested in building energy upgrades in the Bay Area, we have great news!
You can now receive rebates and no-cost consulting services for energy and water-saving upgrades to your multifamily building. Whether you have to replace outdated equipment, need to comply with energy codes, or simply want to take advantage of the latest, most efficient and money-saving technology, BayREN will help you plan and pay for improvements designed to save 10% or more of your building’s energy usage.

A BayREN energy consultant will work with you to choose upgrades that are best suited to your priorities and your building characteristics.
Building improvements designed to save 10% or more of your building’s energy usage qualify for rebates that range from $500 to $5,000+ per unit. Additional funds are available for improvements that transition your property from natural gas to safer, more efficient and climate-friendly electricity.

BayREN Refrigerant Replacement (BRRR) Program

Small business owners are always seeking ways to reduce overhead costs while benefiting their communities. The BayREN Refrigerant Replacement (BRRR) Program helps Bay Area food and floral businesses reduce greenhouse gas emissions by swapping out harmful refrigerants for more environmentally-friendly alternatives. Additionally, the program installs energy efficient equipment that will help lower utility bills. All this at little to no-cost to the businesses.
How to Participate
- Email BRRR to complete your interest form: env-bayrenbpa@sfgov.org. BayREN will reach out within 5 business days to discuss your eligibility and provide an overview of the program, however, the program does not launch until 2025.
- Schedule a free equipment evaluation.
- Receive start-to-finish project service.
- Obtain a free refrigeration training.
- Enjoy more efficient, reliable refrigeration!

Eligibility
Businesses that are screened for eligibility will be notified when BRRR launches in 2025.
-To be eligible, your business must have at least one operating remote condensing unit. This equipment is typically located in basements, on roofs, or outdoors.
-Businesses can check their geographic eligibility on the online map.
