How Do I Get Certified?

Step 1

Register Your Business

Scroll to the bottom of this page and click the "Let's Get Started" button. You'll be asked to provide some basic information about your business and will get access to your Green Business checklist.

When you enroll, you will need to select a “sector” that reflects your business type. In many cases, this will be obvious, such as “Office/Retail” or “Restaurant.”

If you don’t see a sector for your business or if you’re not sure which sector is best for you, select "Office/Retail" and Green Business staff will assist you.

Step 2

Join a Coaching Call

Coaching calls are held weekly to orient you to the online checklist. These short, 30-minute calls will give you an opportunity to learn more about how to complete the checklist and what the key requirements are in each section. You'll have an opportunity to get your questions answered and get clear instructions on the next steps to move forward with your certification.

Step 3

Complete the Online Checklist

The checklist consists of seven sections: Solid Waste, Energy, Water, Pollution Prevention, Transportation, Wastewater, and General. In each section, you will need to make sure that you implement all of the required measures and the minimum number of additional measures. The Green Business Program is here to assist you throughout this process, and we'll share tips and resources to help you complete the checklist. Don't ever hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Step 4

Complete the On-Site Inspections

After your checklist is complete, we'll complete a verification process. We'll also confirm that you're in compliance with any applicable regulations, since Green Business Certification is designed to go above and beyond compliance.

During this stage of the process, we'll meet with you on site. If we find that you’re not meeting one of the program requirements, we'll let you know what you need to do to fix it. This is a voluntary program, and we're here to help you!

Step 5

Get Certified!

Once you complete the steps above, you'll be certified as a Green Business! The certification is valid for four years.

When you get certified, you'll get access to many benefits, the Green Business logo for use in your marketing materials, you'll be added to the statewide director of Green Businesses as well as to the Shop Green app, and you'll receive a certificate and decal for your facility.
