Step 1
Register Your Business Online
Follow the "Let's Get Started" link at the bottom of this page and provide us with contact information and some details about your business. This will generate a checklist of Green Business Program requirements. Don't worry about completing the checklist, just review it to get a better sense of what's required for certification. Once you have registered, we'll reach out to you to learn more about your business and schdule a visit.
Step 2
Schedule a Site Visit
Our Green Business Coordinator will contact you to learn more about your business, explain the certification process, and schedule a preliminary site visit. During this visit, we'll go over the checklist items together, learn more about your facilities and business practices, and see where you stand with respect to program requirements. After than, we'll give you a concise list of actions you'll need to take to move into compliance with program standards. We'll also provide resources and recommendations to make compliance as easy as possbile for you.
Step 3
Complete Action Items
Work through the list of actions provided by your Coordinator to get your workplace into compliance with Green Business standards. This may include things like replacing old lighbulbs with energy-efficient LED's, switching to non-toxic cleaning products, or purchasing recycled-content office supplies. We probably have a solution for any challenge that comes up, and there is funding available to assist with making some of these changes, so just let us know how we can help. Once you have completed your action items, let your Coordinator know and we'll verify that you are in total compliance.
Step 4
Get Certified!
Once we've verified that all program requirements have been met, you'll be recognized as Marin County's newest Certified Green Business ! You'll receive a Certificate of Completion, window decals featuring the program's logo, a digital version of the Green Business logo for your website and other promotional materials. You'll gain acccess to our Business Promotional Toolkit to help you share the news of your certification with your networks. You'll also receive a listing in the statewide Green Business Directory as well as the location-based Shop Green app. We do our best to promote Certified Green Businesses at County and community events, and will notify you of opportunities to connect with like-minded customers.
